The goal is to assist families to gain the knowledge, skills,and resources to enable them to successfully manage the multiple and ongoing demands of supporting someone with a mental illness.

Funded by the Vancouver Island Health Authority, there is no charge for this service and people are eligible for up to six sessions.  No referral is necessary. To get started, call 250-384-4225 and ask for the Family Counselling Program or e-mail [email protected].

Day and evening appointments are available to suit your schedule.

Newsroom <![CDATA[BC Schizophrenia Society (BCSS) Hosts “Lunch and Learn” for Provincial MLAs]]> http://www.bcss.org/?p=3888 2014-12-19T18:51:14Z 2014-12-12T03:09:39Z BC Schizophrenia Society representatives and supporters hosted an exciting “Lunch and Learn” event October 9th, 2014 for BC MLAs.

Recently retired police chief Jamie Graham, prominent psychiatrist Dr. Bill McEwan, and parents and educators Bill Magee and Eve McBride addressed MLAs and staff at the packed-out session, which was held in the Members’ Lounge of the Legislature. Minister of Health Terry Lake welcomed participants and provided opening remarks.

Many other distinguished guests attended the enjoyable and interesting “Lunch and Learn” session, including Minister of Education Peter Fassbender, Chair of the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth Jane Thornthwaite, and Opposition Mental Health Critic Sue Hammell.

Following the event, BC Schizophrenia Society members and guests were invited to attend the parliamentary question period, and were officially introduced and welcomed to the House by Minister Lake.

We look forward to continuing relations with all members of Parliament who are committed to helping people with mental illness and their families.]]>
