New Light Recovery Workshop

NEW LIGHT RECOVERY IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD

The New Light Recovery Workshop is a peer-led psycho-educational program.  The eighteen week program is offered twice a year at no charge.  Dialectical Behavioral Techniques are based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a cognitive-behavioral treatment developed by Marsha M. Linehan, PhD.  DBT develops coping skills to manage intense feelings. Although originally designed to treat people with Borderline Personality Disorder, DBT has proven effective for people with a wide range of mental health and addiction issues.  Modules include mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.  Each session provides time for learning new DBT skills, practicing them and a discussion of how to apply the skills.

The workshop helps participants overcome the following problems:

Overwhelming Emotions:

Intense, negative emotions are difficult to experience on a daily basis.  These emotions often lead to depression, anxiety and irritability.

Interpersonal Difficulties:

Many people with overwhelming emotions have difficulty building and maintaining relationships.

Destructive Behavior:

Impulsive and problematic behaviors such as substance use, reckless driving, sleeping too much or too little, over-eating or not eating enough, self- injury, suicide attempts.

Cognitive Dysregulation:

Disturbances in thinking which may include feeling worthless, empty, believing that others dislike you or are against you and difficulty trusting others.

The New Light Recovery Workshop is NOT a support group, a replacement for professional therapy or mental health treatment, or a place to share traumatic experiences that may be triggering for you or another participant.

The New Light Recovery Workshop is open to anybody who experiences overwhelming emotions.  You do not need to have a psychiatric diagnosis and you do not need a referral.   For information about session dates or to sign up, contact BCSS Victoria.
