An 8-week educational support group for teens (ages 13 to 18) with a parent with a mental illness (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or major depression). Guided by the book I’m Not Alone by Michelle D. Sherman, the group addresses a number of topics relevant to teens. Through group discussions participants explore the range of emotions that youth with mentally ill parents experience including confusion, fear and shame. Strengths will be emphasized and healthy coping strategies will be fostered.
The pilot for this program was made possible by a grant from the Queen Alexandra Youth Committee and a contribution from a philanthropic student society at Reynolds High School.
Registration for the group is required. There is no fee for participants.
